Sketch a detailed layout of your landscape

Although it does not need to be to scale, include all planting areas, trees and plant types, the water source, and any existing watering systems.

Ascertain the amount of water pressure available to your system

Drip system parts are designed to run on lower water pressure
Definition:
"PSI: Unit of measure for pressure. Number of pounds of pressure per square inch."
than other sprinkler parts, about 20-30psi. Check your system pressure to see if a pressure regulator is need to bring your water pressure down.

Do you need a drip system filter?

Because drip irrigation parts have such a low application rate, they are much more sensitive to dirt and debris and might easily become clogged. A drip filter on a system can trap particles before they block the flow of water in your system.

What is the connection type you will be using? Outside faucet or electric valve?

Know what your water connection size and inlet type will be.

What will you use to distribute the water in the correct amounts to your plants?

Drip irrigation systems can generally be grouped into four categories: Drip Emitters, Micro Sprays, Distribution Tubing, and Bubblers. Among these, there are different models that will emit different amounts of water. Drip emitters, called point-source distribution, deliver the water close to the base of the plants, and subsequently close to their root systems. Micro Sprays deliver water in a similar form to regular spray sprinklers, only in a scalled-down version, spraying less water with a smaller radius. Distribution Tubing, called line source distribution, is used in more densly planted areas where the emitters do not need to be aligned perfectly with the plants. Bubblers are emitters that generally have threaded inlets. They bubble or flood out water a short distance, and are perfect for shrubs, trees, and flower beds. Untitled Document
